Chromatic Scale:
to be tongued up and slurred down: played as eighth notes in a moderate tempo.

Major scales to be tongued up and slurred down, played one octave in the most
comfortable range
of the p1ayer. They may be played two octaves at the student's option. Music may be used in this part of the audition. All
instruments will use the following concert scales:

Quarter note=72 (minimum for all scales)
Major
scales shall be performed in the following rhythmic pattern:

Chromatic
scale shall be performed in one of the following patterns: Triplets, eighths,
or sixteenths

Auditions
Snare Drum Rudiments The following snare drum
rudiments will be required every year for Middle
School percussionists (all should be played
in a slow-fast-slow format): double stroke roll; single stroke roll; five (5)
stroke roll; nine (9) stroke roll; flams; Paradiddles.
Keyboard scales: C,
F, Bb, Eb, Ab, Db, Chromatic.
Timpani : All percussionists
auditioning for Honor Band will be required to demonstrate a long roll played
in a pp-ff-pp format on the timpani.
Required
Equipment: All
percussion instruments will be supplied for those auditioning for Honor Band Percussion.
However, each student is required
to bring his/her own sticks or mallets. Students are allowed to supply their
own bells and/or snare drum but must use the supplied
timpani, but please remember that setup time is extremely limited. A timpani
tuner will NOT be supplied.
